The following is a snippet from an audio drama script. An audio drama script is a written blueprint for a story told entirely through sound. It provides dialogue, sound cues, and atmosphere to guide actors, directors, and sound designers in creating a complete narrative experience without visuals.

    SCENE 1

SFX: Sharp keystrokes echoing across the room.

SFX: Ceiling fan spinning slowly. A clock ticking.

SFX: Chair creaking as someone leans back heavily.

JOAQUIN (sighing): This is nothing like the movies.

    SFX: Steady typing.

MARTHA (ironically): Tired of following people?

JOAQUIN: Yeah. Why does everyone care so much if their partners cheat?

SFX: Three firm knocks on the door.

    JOAQUIN (sitting up): Come in!

SFX: Door creaks. Thick heels walking in with uncertain steps.

ORNELLA (hesitant): Excuse me… are you Detective Martínez?

SFX: Shaky breathing. A quiet sob.

JOAQUIN (slightly excited): Yes, yes… How can I help you, miss?

    SFX: The clock keeps ticking.

ORNELLA (voice breaking): My dog has disappeared.

    SILENCE

    JOAQUIN (disappointed): Your dog?

ORNELLA: Yes. He’s my best friend—you have to help me find him.

After nine months of aimlessly spinning in my mother’s womb, I was born via C-section, with my head in the wrong place and the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck. I find it curious that the doctors realized I couldn’t be born naturally, but not that I was a girl. They swore to my mother that I would be a boy, and if it hadn’t been for a prophetic dream in which she saw me just as I am, my parents would have painted the nursery blue.

    EXT. PARK – DAY

MARIANA (24) is sitting on a bench, anxiously glancing at her cell phone with one hand while nervously smoothing her coat with the other. She takes a deep breath.

    ??? (O.S.)
    Hey!

Mariana quickly looks toward the source of the sound and sees LAUTARO (25). He’s a handsome young man, carrying a bouquet and smiling. He raises his hand and waves enthusiastically. Mariana stands up, shocked, and waves back with a shy smile.

Lautaro walks toward Mariana… and passes right by her without even noticing her. He stops a few feet away and embraces another woman who was waiting for him.

Mariana looks back at him with her hand half raised. Her smile disappears, and she sits back down. She covers her face in embarrassment.

I can count on one hand the times my dad tried to teach me how to drive. When he finally decided, I was fifteen. We left on a Sunday afternoon in his 1999 Ford Escort, its gray paint slightly faded by the sun, and explored the area near the Villa Lugano racetrack. I drove with my hands tense on the wheel, trying to remember every instruction my dad had given me. He sat in the passenger seat, his body slightly hunched, his large, rough hands resting on his knees. His voice occasionally interrupted the silence to give me directions, which made me feel calmer and more at ease, surrounded by the faint smell of dampness and diesel inside the car.

When we got home, we were excited. My dad was even looking forward to our next lesson.
